On the outset, the lawn mowing is often seen as a boring and mundane task. No! it’s a good exercise, stress buster, it’s inspiring as it invites admiration, it keeps you outdoors in your garden and makes you involve in it.
When will you need to mow it down. Certainly, not when it outgrows. Ideally, a lawn is to be mowed when it’s a third more than the required size. Also, late afternoons are best time to indulge in it as the grass is drier by then, free of morning dew or other wetness. Dry grass is less prone to infection spreading by mower. Dry clippings gets easily collected in catcher, without clogging it and minimizing raking up of cut grass.
Mowing in straight strips is advisable as it optimizes the mower cutting time. Always align your mower, so that it leaves no strips of grass between cuts, by overlapping the successive strips a little. When there are gentle undulations in the landscape, drive straight over them but not over rocks, stones, dead vegetation, plant stalks or any other thing that is not grass.
After mowing, wash your grass thoroughly, particularly if you use mulching blades in your mower, so that the fine clippings set to the bottom. Never mow an over grown lawn in a tempting single step. Two or more successive cuts with a day or two in between is good. Never cut a grass too short, lest it would short fuse your lawn!
Please don’t mow your lawn always once in a week. Man’s beard grows at a uniform rate across the seasons but not grasses! You need to cut it frequently in summers when it grow fast and less frequently in fall.
A good lawn needs a good lawn mower. So, keep your lawn mower in good shape. Lubricate it well. Check its nuts and bolts frequently. Check the engine health for good condition. Keep right tire pressure as with any other vehicle. Always give your mower a post-mowing wash. Finally, let it dry and store it dry under shade, in a little shed of its own or in your garage.
As a beautiful green lawn is soothing to eyes and a great thing to play on for your kids and pets, nurture it and maintain it well by giving it a timely neat mowing regularly.
