Pavers are blocks of stone or concrete, bricks or tiles that can be laid in interesting patterns to form pathways and driveways. These are around for ages to make beautiful outdoor pavements from patios to drive ways to garden path ways and platforms.
Pavers are either interlocking type like pre-cast blocks of concrete or semi interlocking type bricks and tiles or non-interlocking type stone blocks. The size of pavers varies from blocks of a few inches to 1.5’.
Uniform sized pavers give raise to beautiful pattern of pavement. Whereas paver stones of different sizes and shapes when arranged in such a way that they from a tight arrangement of geometrical patterns similar to the rip-rap of dam/ bridge embankments etc.
The days of using only stone blocks have long gone. Interlocking blocks of concrete and tiles in many beautiful designs are widely used. So were the rectangular blocks of any material, bricks which can be laid in interesting patterns. Visit to a few landscaped gardens before making decisions can give a real idea; even a good photos supplied by your dealer would help.
If laid well, the paver pathways give unmatched appearance and last for life. Obviously, its life span depends on the workmanship of layer and type of sub soil. In poor soils, as in case of pavements, a layer of sand or stone dust or any other stabilizing agent is laid before paver layer. In water retaining soils also the sand layer helps water pumping up through joints in pavers. More importantly, the path bed need to be kept well drained for stability of paver layer and its durability.
Many a time, as in case of non-interlocking type blocks or even just for the look of edge, bricks were laid in inclined position to form kerb.
